RSAF Leadership Programme

Saudi Development and Training Company

Brief

The Saudi Development Training company (SDT) had been contracted to design and deliver a leadership module for trainee officers attending the King Faisal Air Academy (KFAA) in Riyadh. In a complex stakeholder environment and lacking the expertise to design a leadership programme SDT selected PPWD as their partner in the project. The brief was to design and develop a 6 week leadership module, then to help select and train the SDT instructors to deliver the course.

Solution

PPWD’s completed a full Training Needs Analysis which focused on the needs of the cadets. However, it also addressed all the competing stakeholder needs and consequently allowed the project to move forward in a more consensual manner.

The report underpinned the design of a course of 180 hours of lessons and practical exercises. To ensure that it was cultural aligned and also that the pace was correct PPWD undertook a short trial – this provided confidence that the course would work first time. In tandem with this we supported the selection and training of SDT instructors and then co-delivered the initial programme.

Result

The cadets and senior Saudi Air Force Officers enthusiastically received the course. It has made a significant impact on the ability of Saudi officers to lead and manage their airmen.

PPWD delivered the programme on time and on budget. This was despite a number of short notice requirement changes. Because of our belief in working as a long term partnership, flexible approach and capability to manage costs we were able to flex other parts of the project and offer the SDT solutions that did not incur additional costs. Consequently we continue to work with SDT on a range of other training programmes.
